>Sometimes you read something that hits you full on.
Today was one of those days for me.

Sometimes it’s easy to become so goal-oriented and so focused on our dreams that we overlook the simple things that we should be enjoying in our everyday life. But we have to remember that life is not really about the destination, it’s about how we live all along the way. It’s about the path we’re on that shines brighter and brighter.
In this life, there is no such thing as a finish line. Once you accomplish one dream, you’ll be given another. When you overcome one challenge, there will be another. There is always another mountain to climb. If we make the mistake of just living for the destination, we’ll look up one day and realize we’ve missed out on the biggest part of life because most of life is routine. Most of us get up every morning, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go to bed and do it again. There are very few mountaintops where you graduate from school, or you get married, or have a child, or go on vacation. The high times are few and far between. Don’t get stuck living for the mountaintops. Learn to enjoy the path you’re on. Learn to enjoy the people in your life. Learn to enjoy the simple blessings of walking in the path the Lord has prepared for you.
I don’t know about you – but my goal, my dream is such a part of my life that sometimes it feels like that is all I’m focused on. I know this is true because of how I act/react when I’m not able to write. I get cranky. I’m in a super bad mood. Not always a good thing.
I’m not saying to give up our dream – but maybe we need to learn to enjoy the path to getting there. Enjoy the writing process, the creativity, the growth in our lives. Enjoy the celebration of finishing a chapter, reaching 10,000, then 25,000 then 50,000 words and more. Have a freak out when you actually finish the book, you’ve conquered the edits and instead of dreading the query process – get excited about it.  But also in the meantime … don’t forget the ‘other’ path – you’re ‘other’ life πŸ™‚  (a great reminder for me when my kids say ‘aren’t you done writing yet???’)
(Just a reminder about the Steena & Stina’s OMG! Contest happening now!  Don’t forget to join – free books, chocolate, query critiques and more … you don’t want to miss out!)
