Summer isn’t complete without a lemonade stand.
Do you remember your first attempt at entrepreneurship?
Sitting in the sweltering sun praying for customers to come by your street so they can pay for a tiny cup of super sugar-sweet sourness. How many jugs of it did you drink personally? I know I always ended up drinking more than I sold 😉 Ahhh, the joys of summer.
Do you remember the hard work you put in to make your stand successful? Finding paper to make your signs. Begging your mom to help you drag the table out to the front yard and then pleading with her to let you use her nice summer tablecloths? Do you remember what you used for a coin box? Was it a fish bowl where you made a label saying ‘tips are welcome’ or an old shoe box? I used a jewelry box I had made during a summer camp – out of popsicle sticks and glue on jewels. It was awesome! Well – except for the holes that pennies managed to escape out of ….
My oldest daughter held a lemonade stand with her best friend yesterday. The juice was …. very sour …. and the signs were decorated with flowers and funny faces. I wish you could have heard them yelling out “lemonade for sale. The BEST lemonade you’ll ever taste!”
I’m not sure what’s better. The memories you make, the excitement you feel getting ready or the anticipation of your first sale. Maybe its waiting for the look on your customer’s face as they taste your homemade juice.
I know for my daughter and her friend – it was the fact that they made $37!!
For me – it was the fact she treated me to a double chocolate ice cream cone! SWEET!
What about you? Do you have fond memories you’d like to share?
Remember, in the end, all things succumb to chocolate!

37 dollars is pretty good. We live on a dead end so my kids have not been able to indulge in this. When we were in Colorado, hot and thirsty from driving, we stopped and bought lemonade from some girls – it was soo good!

We used to live in the country, right on the highway with a baseball diamond behind us. Needless to say – I had a lot of stands 😉

Growing up I never indulged in the lemonade stand venture because we lived in the middle of nowhere. That being said, I do fondly remember the joys of having yard sales. Our parents would allow my brother and I to each have our own little table. We’d be weeks decided and contemplating what we could stand to part with to earn some extra cash for new trinkets. The sadness coupled with the excitement when your goodies were purchased made for a wonderful adventure that I am sure warmed my parents’ hearts.

I loved having yard sales as a kid! They were the ‘bomb’. It was always hard deciding what I wanted to give up though. I’d have to weigh if the quarter was worth it 😉 Thanks for the memory!
