I have a special treat – and its surprising that I’m actually letting this happen on my blog, but I love Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups, so I’ll forgive Kaira this time 🙂
******
In HERE, HOME, HOPE, my protagonist, Kelly, loves Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. In fact, she craves them. It may be surprising then that I don’t like chocolate. I know, I’m here, as a guest on a Chocolate and Writing blog and (shhhh) I never have liked chocolate. Trick or Treat was a complete bummer. Everyone gave out chocolate candy. The only choices left to me? Candy corn, and there’s only so much candy corn a girl can take.
So why in the world does Kelly crave chocolate? I’m not sure, but I imagine it’s due to the influence of all my chocolate-loving friends. And that’s the writing life, really. It’s not about your story – it can’t be. It’s your take on the world, sure, but with a twist.
Kelly has many of my characteristics – many more we don’t share. I love her like a friend, but I don’t have a friend exactly like her. That’s what I love about fiction, that’s what I love about creating stories. My life is enriched through my characters, and I hope, in turn, my characters enrich readers’ lives.
Naturally, my recipe includes Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! Enjoy!

>Hi Kiara and Steena:I saw your trailer and one of your videos. The beach video looks just like where I lived in Santa Barbara when I went to UCSB. Is it there? The trailer makes me want to read the book. Is it like Eat, Pray, Love?Steena: I am in real need of a recipe for penunt butter fudge. Do you happen to have one?Vince
